I don’t know if this is properly called a “meme,” but I’m picking up on Whet’s hand-off after the flip.

  1. total amount of music on your computer:

iTunes tells me 47.13gb. I have another 5 or so still waiting to be sorted in from my old machine. I anticipate a level of duplication there, though. I beat my goal of 46gb by Feb. 1 a week early, you might like to know. By the way, iTunes turns 47.13gb into 8158 songs and 26.2 days of music. Yes, I consider that to be too much to carry around in a device the size of a deck of cards. After owning a 40gb iPod for almost a whole year, I can say that I do not lust after the 60gb one bit.

  2. last CD you bought was:

The Sub Pop release of Saint Etienne’s Good Humor that includes the bonus CD Fairfax High. Apparently, it’s “rare” and “out of print.” I take this as comfort when I consider what I paid on eBay for it, even though I already have disc 1 and downloaded the entirety of disc 2.

  3. what was the last song you listened to before reading this message? was it deliberate?

“16 tolenadas” by Funk Como Le Guste. I imagine it was deliberate, in that I said to myself that I’d like to listen to the CD I just burned for my dad. I decided it was too late to stick around in the office a few tracks before the end. This was the track during which I pressed pause. I then, music free, came home and read Whet’s post. The previous track, and, hence, the last completed song, was “Papá papet” by Ivete Sangalo and Timbalada.

  4. write down five songs that you listen to often and/or mean a lot to you.

iTunes has been keeping a record since mid-June. Here are my top 5 by play count:

    1. The Streets, “Fit But You Know It,” 64
    2. Scissor Sisters, “Comfortably Numb,” 50
    3. Postal Service, “Such Great Heights,” 48 (yes, I’m ashamed)
    4. Annie, “Me Plus One,” 45
    5. Annie, “Heartbeat,” 42

Discarding duplicates by the same artist, here are the next fifteen: Electrelane, “Oh Sombra”; Franz Ferdinand, “Take Me Out”; Stereolab, “Lo Boob Oscillator”; Magnetic Fields, “Long-Forgotten Fairytale”; Flaming Lips, “What Is the Light?”; Pizzicato Five, “アリガト We Love You”; Junior Senior, “Move Your Feet”; The Cure, “The Exploding Boy”; Mastruz com Leite, “Na ponta do pé > Forrobodó”; Neil Young, “Harvest Moon”; Café Tacuba, “Mediodía”; Super Furry Animals, “(A) Touch Sensitive”; Britney Spears, “Toxic”; De La Soul, “A Rollerskating Jam Named Saturday”; Phoenix, “If I Ever Feel Better.” Many of these songs are on one mix CD/playlist that I have listened to seemingly constantly since April.

  5. [to whom] are you going to pass this meme?

Manan? Steve? Everyone else I know already reads Whet’s page.

One Response to “Music Meme”

  1. You’re missing the point of the iPod, deSa. It’s more than a mobile music player, it’s a paradigm shift. Apparently most of the Microsoft employees have them also, much to the distress of Billy, as they are so visible at Microsoft’s main compound.
